Stream of Oblivion
Oslo, 2025
MA Project

When entering the underworld, all shadows must drink from the river Lethe and its murmuring waters. In doing so, they let go of all memories that tie them to their former lives.

Brigitte experiences this herself: fragmented words flow rhythmically, revealing her own transformation in a stream of oblivion. The abandoned garden, with its sounds and shadows, is remembered in ink, preserving the place Brigitte returns to each time she slips away while telling her story again, again, again, again…

A reflection on memory and language – and their loss.
Monologues from a grandmother with dementia are gently transcribed and gathered in a hand-bound book, an attempt to preserve, and perhaps also to understand.

In the garden in the village whose name can be translated to “midstream” – the current that runs through the middle of a river – the memories with the grandmother are strongest. The numerous drawings of the garden form a fragmented whole in the shape of an animation, both blurred and clear at once. The transcriptions become a script, the garden the stage.
